Shackleton - Patagonia
Location: Torres del Paine, Patagonia
Project Type: Wildlife & Brand Documentary Content
Client: Shackleton
Client Use: Brand storytelling, digital campaigns, long-term brand assets
Overview
Gaia Studios partnered with Shackleton to produce a wildlife-driven visual project in Patagonia, documenting pumas in one of the most remote and demanding landscapes on Earth. Set in and around Torres del Paine, the project draws a parallel between Shackleton’s legacy of endurance, exploration, and resilience and the modern pursuit of elusive wildlife in extreme environments. The Patagonian puma—rarely seen, highly adaptive, and deeply connected to the land—became the natural embodiment of those values.
Objective
The objective was to create a cinematic body of work that aligned Shackleton’s expedition heritage with real, present-day exploration. The project aimed to showcase the brand’s outerwear in authentic field conditions while maintaining full respect for wildlife and the ecosystem. Content needed to feel timeless, honest, and rooted in experience—not staged or promotional.
Approach
Production followed a documentary-led methodology, working closely with local trackers to locate and observe pumas ethically in the wild. Long days were spent hiking, waiting, and adapting to unpredictable Patagonian weather—mirroring the mindset required for both wildlife filmmaking and true expedition work. The filming approach favored long lenses, minimal crew footprint, and natural light. The narrative was shaped by what the environment allowed, not by a predefined script—letting patience, landscape, and animal behavior guide the story.
